Runway to your way

Makeup trend: Downtown cool

The smoky eye heats up the night with a sweep of seductive metallic shadows.

Eyes: Start with a sheer sweep of black eyeshadow on your lids — this will create depth when you layer a colour overtop. Use a brush to cover your entire lid and lower lash line with a deep pigmented shadow (we went for peacock green) . Blend the colour out to create a smoky effect. Apply a small amount of mascara.

Lips: Dab a touch of concealer on your lips to neutralize any natural colour, or go for a nude gloss or lipstick.

Clockwise: Pixi endless silky eye pen in emerald gold, $15, Sonia Kashuk sine luxe sheer lip colour in sheer seashell, $11, Maybelline New York color tattoo pure pigments eyeshadow in never fade jade, $7, Pixi Fairy light solo eyeshadow in gilded olive, $15, Target.

New take on the ballet bun: Pull all but the front section of your hair back into a messy bun. Twist the loose pieces and bobby pin them back to create volume at the crown and cover the hair elastic. Let some pieces fall out — go sleek or tousled!

Makeup trend: Vintage glamour

A crimson lip sets the stage for a show-stopping look, day or night!

Skin: Use a light creamy foundation to even out your complexion.

Eyes: Lightly line the inside of your eyes with a black kohl liner and apply a coat of mascara.

Lips: Choose a lip liner that matches your lipstick and fill in your pout. This will make the colour last longer. Apply lipstick (we chose a classic warm red).

Cheeks: Add a sheer swipe of blush to keep skin looking fresh and healthy.

Clockwise: Maybelline New York master smoky eye pencil by Eyestudio, $8, Covergirl clean whipped cream foundation in 310, $8, L'Oreal Paris colour riche lipstick in British red, $9, Sonia Kashuk beautifying blush in pink rose, $10, Target.

New take on the marcel waves: Wind hair from ends to the temple (no higher) in hot rollers. You want to keep the top sleek. Once the curls have set, smooth with a paddle brush. Go for a deep side part and secure with a bobby pin or decorative clip.

Makeup trend: Pretty sexy

A sharp line plus a vampy lip add up to the new face for fall

Brows: Define and fill in brows with a brow pencil or powder.

Eyes: For the cat-eye effect, line eyes with a liquid liner, from the inner corner of your eye to just beyond the end of your lash line. (If you make a mistake, use a Q-tip and makeup remover to clean it up without causing any extra smudges.) Apply a coat of mascara.

Lips: Finish off with a deep plum lip for a romantic fall look.

Clockwise: Pixi natural brow duo, $18, L'Oreal Paris 12hr infallible the super slim liquid eyeliner in black, $11, Sonia Kashuk bare minimum pressed powder in translucent medium, $10, Revlon super lustrous lipstick in plum velour, $7, Target.

New take on the French roll: Backcomb the top layer of hair at the crown to create height, but leave the front section (bangs if you have them) loose. Divide back section in two, twist together into a messy French roll and secure with bobby pins. Let bangs fall in a deep side part.
