1. Even out your skin tone

A moisturizing foundation is often all you need to even out any redness or discolouration. Start with a light layer and apply a little more product in the areas where you need extra coverage.

2. Look for sheer shadows

An earthy eye shadow palette (think taupes, beiges and browns) is all you need to highlight and define your eyes. These softer shades can be worn quite sheer for day, but are buildable for a more dramatic effect too.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, $33.

3. Show off more natural lashes

Put away your black mascara and try a dark brown shade instead. The effect is a little more subtle but just as pretty, emphasizing your lashes without looking harsh.

5. Play down your pout

Nude lips are a big trend this season, but that doesn't mean leaving them bare. Look for a sheer, hydrating lipstick that is close to your natural shade and steer clear of anything matte or overly glossy.

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Truffle Tease, $11, Shoppers Drug Mart.

6. Touch up imperfections

A creamy, easy-to-blend concealer is a must when it comes to hiding blemishes and dark circles, and helps to brighten up your whole complexion.
