$25, Elizabeth Arden

What do you call a face cream that lasts for 80 years and counting: a massive success. Or you can simply call it by name: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. This multi-purpose face moisturizer is half protective balm and half rejuvenating emollient. The legendary brand’s experts attribute this dual-functioning formula to its key ingredients: petrolatum, to soothe, protect and hydrate the skin; salicylic acid, to gently exfoliate the skin; and vitamin E, to act as an antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radicals. But we credit the cream’s cult status and longevity to the healthy, youthful, dewy glow it leaves on our skin after we use it. It’s so good sometimes we even rub a little into our heels and elbows—the late Miss Arden must have known that we would want and need this extra TLC when she was mixing up her first batch. After all, the girl from rural Canada would have experienced a harsh winter or two herself before she moved south of the border and opened her first Red Door Salon on Fifth Avenue in New York City in 1910.
