$34, Chanel
Shades of purple, whether they’re lavender, mauve, violet, lilac or grape, are unequivocally this season’s must-have eyeshadow hue. We like Amethyst — specifically, the Ombre Essentielle version by Chanel. The petite palette may not take up a lot of space in our purse (trust us: you’ll want to carry this product with you everywhere), but don’t be fooled: the eye shade packs a punch. Extremely versatile, you can apply a sheer wash of colour across your eyelids for daytime wear or add multiple layers to create an intense look for evenings out and all skin tones can pull it off. After all, Peter Philips, the French powerhouse’s creative director of makeup, isn’t deemed Rue Cambon’s resident beauty genius for nothing. And while he may have attached real chunks of the amethyst stone to line the models’ eyebrows for Chanel’s Fall 2012 runway show in Paris, we know where this shade of purple is meant to be worn and seen.
