Today is famous Scottish poet and lyricist, Robbie Burns' birthday. Every year this day is celebrated across the world on January 25th — often with a Scottish meal and a pint. Yesterday, I marked the day (a little early) by enjoying an excellent breakfast that reminded me of a Scottish breakfast that my Grandmother used to make (especially delicious potato scone). As I savoured the meal, the words to a famous Robbie Burns poem, that my Grandfather used to recite in his thick Scottish accent, ran through my head...
Some hae meat and canna eat, And some would eat that want it; But we hae meat, and we can eat, Sae let the Lord be thankit.
What nice memories of both of my Grandparents. The funny part is, the breakfast I was enjoying was actually an Irish breakfast — at the Ceili cottage in Leslieville Toronto. But it's pretty similar to my Grandmother's Scottish one. Check out the breakfast and some pics of this lovely pub:

Sausage, Bacon, Potato scone, grilled tomato, fried egg, beans and black pudding (a Traditional sausage, that's also goes by the name of blood pudding because, yep, it's made from blood). The breakfast was great. I was filled to the brim for hours.

If you've got leftover mashed potatoes, I have just the recipe for you. It's a Scottish potato scone recipe that I made on Boxing Day. I'll post it soon. What are your favourite Scottish recipes?
