Summer means steak grilled to perfection. Try our Thai spin using sauces you probably have at home. You'll never want a plain old steak again.
1 boneless grilling steak, such as rib-eye or strip loin, 1 1/2 in thick
1 lime
1 tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp minced jalapeno
1 garlic clove, minced, or 1 tsp bottled chopped garlic
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 green onion
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Bring steak to room temperature. Oil grill and heat barbecue to medium-high. Squeeze about 1 tbsp (15 mL) of lime juice into a small bowl. Stir in fish sauce, jalapeno, garlic and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Add onion.
In another small bowl, stir oyster sauce with oil and pepper. Brush all over steak. Barbecue, uncovered, from 5 to 7 min per side for medium-rare. Brush often with any remaining oyster-sauce mixture.
Remove steak to a cutting board and let stand 5 min. Then slice and drizzle with jalapeno sauce. Great with noodles or salad.
