Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 apples, preferably Golden Delicious or McIntosh, 1.5 kg, peeled and cored

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 2 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • 3 to 6 tbsp granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Thinly slice apples. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add apples. Stir often until coated with butter, 1 to 2 minutes. Add water and lemon juice. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender, 20 to 25 minutes. If apples become dry, add 1 to 2 tbsp (15 to 30 mL) water. Once apples are tender, stir in 3 tbsp (45 mL) sugar until dissolved. Taste. Add more sugar, if needed.
