Ingredients

  • 500-mL container plain yogurt, about 2 cups

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • pinch cinnamon, or ground ginger (optional)

  • 3 peaches

  • 1/2 pint blueberries

  • 1/2 pint raspberries

  • 12 cookies, such as star-shaped butter cookies, chocolate chip or your favourite cookie (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, stir yogurt with sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. Taste and add more cinnamon, if needed. Peel peaches, if you wish. Slice in half and discard stone. Slice each half into thin wedges.

  • Spoon a generous dollop of yogurt into bottom of 12 plastic or regular glasses. Sprinkle with blueberries. Top with more yogurt. Cover with peach slices. Top with more yogurt. Sprinkle with raspberries. Top each with a whole cookie or crumble one overtop. Yogurt swirls keep well, covered and refrigerated, up to 2 hours before serving. Add cookie just before serving.

Healthy creamy yogurt and fruit never looked so tempting. Layer yogurt with fresh berries and peaches or whichever fruit you like best. Top it off with a star-shaped cookie or cookie crumble and you've got a low-cal dessert that looks fabulous and is good for you, too.

Summery Yogurt Sundaes

For another cool treat, stir or layer plain or fruit-flavoured yogurt with crumbled granola bars, cubes of angel food cake or a sprinkling of instant coffee granules or crisp rice cereal. Top with berries, grated chocolate or store-bought chocolate sauce.
