David Bowie has touched so many of our lives through his music, art and brave transformations. For me, he'll always be the goblin king with the spiky long hair and amazing makeup, tempting Jennifer Connelly and us all with that beautiful magic ball in Labyrinth ("You have no power over me!").

News of Bowie's death after a courageous and private battle with cancer has left many shocked — he had just released a new album, Blackstar, on his birthday, January 8.

Here are some stunning tributes from Bowie's family, friends and fans on Twitter.

Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, confirmed the news on Sunday.
