Ask Arren Williams

...

I have old 12"x12" tiles which contain asbestos on my kitchen floor. I want to replace them because, aside from the asbestos, they have to be stripped and waxed at least once per year. Can I rip them out without damaging my health?

Firstly, I suggest you contact the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation regarding your tiles. Visit their site at www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca and type 'asbestos' into their search engine. You'll find information on how to remove your tiles safely. Once they've been removed, I'd suggest you check out Arteca products, www.artecaflooring.com. Newly available in Canada, their durable flooring line covers everything from rustic wood to metallic and sparkle finishes. —Arren Williams
