In today’s news: one Libyan woman tries to tell her story; American women vs. Wal-Mart; the bald and beautiful; becoming a tween superstar; and Katy Perry’s mom is traumatized by her daughter’s boobs.

The mother-daughter relationship is a complex one. Even a seemingly innocuous phone call to mother can be an extreme sport of emotion, an adrenaline-infused blend of adoration and resentment, dependence and rebellion.

I’ve written in this space about the “Throne Up” royal wedding barf bags and the commemorative royal mug with the picture of Kate and her betrothed – errrr – Prince Harry on the side. In a desperate attempt to cash in on the wedding of this century, royal opportunists from London to Hong Kong are flogging fine collectibles. It seems, however, these trinkets are being hustled from within the proverbial palace walls as well.

I’ve always been anti-buffet — that is, until recently, when I stayed at an all-inclusive hotel for March Break. It was buffet morning, noon and night.
