Twice a year I look forward to the One of a Kind Show (it stops in Toronto and Vancouver) for the opportunity to discover unique and handmade pieces from talented local artists. It's a wonderful reminder of how many talented creative people are right here within our communities and I love the opportunity to support their work.

Mara Minuzzo - Mara's bright and playful pieces range from nostalgic scenes of a classic Canadian summer to portraits of her son's Playmobile figurines. With a photo-realistic attention to detail, they're bound to bring a dose of fun to your space. Find them at her etsy shop, Blue Trike.

Heyday Design - Claire Madill's porcelain renditions of glass mason jars are the perfect modern twist on a classic. Made in delicate white porcelain, they are glazed on the interior so are suitable to use as a glass or a vase. They're a perfect addition to any white porcelain collection and add just a touch of Canadiana.

Avril Loreti - It's almost impossible not to be drawn in by the bright colours and simple graphics of Avril Loreti's booth at the show. Fresh graphic patterns and styles in fun and playful shades are like a breath of fresh air that would breathe new life into any tired corner of your home. I love the bright paintchip place mats for a cheerful spring dinner table.

Mod Pieces - Lia Fagan's unique vintage lighting finds are restyled with a modern twist. My favourite is the mid-century teak lamp with the moose print shade - so fun!

Images of This and That - Tania Fitzpatrick's shop offers glossy, bright images in a wide range of subjects and styles. Each is priced at only $30 and perfectly fits into an Ikea Ribba frame. Beautiful, affordable and original art for any budget!
