How to make over your old chairs

Transform a tired-looking dining room in about an hour with this easy-to-do project

Make an old chair new again with just a bit of paint and fabric. Use ocean blue paint and black and white paisley fabric for a fresh and flirty update (left chair). Simple black paint and charcoal gray fabric creates classic and elegant seating (right chair).

Get this look: Chair, Frontier Sales. Chair frame paints, Black 2132-10, Benjamin Moore Paints; Krylon interior/exterior in Blue Ocean breeze, Canadian Tire. Chair fabrics, Designerfabrics.ca. Cork flooring in Slate Algae, Wicanders. Panel molding, baseboard, Home Depot. Wallpaper, Kelly hoppen Vintage flock in pearl and black, crowns and coronets, both Graham&Brown.

You need: screwdriver, sandpaper, painting supplies, fabric, scissors, staple gun.

Remove seat from chair. Sand, prime (depending on the existing finish) and paint the chair frame.

Cut fabric slightly larger than chair seat.

Staple middle of front, back and sides of seat. Finish stapling fabric all around. Replace seat in chair.
