How to make a modern pendant lampshade

10-minute project: Turn a basket on its head to create an industrial-chic lamp in no time
By Produced by Virginie Martocq; Styling by Julia Black
Wire basket lamp, blue wall, white shelf, white table, light bulb, flowers, bottles Roberto Caruso

Easy how-to: Modern lampshade

1. Turn a wire basket upside down. Use a metal drill bit to make a hole in the bottom of the basket, if necessary.

2. Thread electrical wire through the hole. Follow instructions from a lamp-making kit to attach wire to socket.

3. Follow instructions to attach other end of wire to plug, or have an electrician hard-wire into ceiling.

4. Screw in light bulb and enjoy!

Shopping tip: Play around with light bulbs for different effects. Edison-type bulbs feel retro, while round LEDs are modern and eco-friendly.
