Add a dark rug. You don’t have to overhaul your home’s whole decor to make it feel seasonally appropriate. Mixing in a few hits of dark hues here and there can dramatically change the overall vibe of your home, taking it from fresh, casual summer to well-worn fall.
Pile on the throw pillows. There’s no need to put away your summer pillows for the year. Simply add a few in fall colours — think burnt reds, inky blues and mustard yellows — to the mix. Plus, the more pillows to sink into, the better.
Fall checklist: 10 home must-haves to ease into the season
Change your bedding. There’s just something about the crisp air that makes us want to hunker down in a pile of cozy blankets. We’re all about the layers — if you have a white bedspread, try incorporating some fall-hues at the foot of your bed with a chunky throw. Or, if you if you like to change things up completely, opt for a patterned bedspread in a warm and inviting colour.
Have fun with your centerpieces. We love fresh, blooming flowers in the summer...almost as much as pumpkins in the fall. For an easy and impressive effect, try gilding some pumpkins with gold leaf.
Introduce a few autumnal accents. Sometimes, the smallest accessories can make the biggest statement. Toss an extra throw blanket over a chair, introduce a glazed dark green vase or add a rustic-looking mug to your collection. Now all you need is a chai latte.
