The deals from Target's liquidation sale

In the lead up to closing its Canadian stores, Target has begun discounting its merchandise. Here were the best (and worst) deals to be had on the first day of liquidation.

Cosmetics: 30% off

Cosmetics were 30%, while beauty supplies—which included hair products, moisturizer and facial cleansers—were only 10% off.

Carpets: 20 % off

Area rugs were popular among shoppers on the first day of Target Canada's close-out sales. At 20% off, this meant almost $20 off regularly priced $89.99 rugs.

Camping equipment: 15% off

Air mattresses were one of the better in-store deals, with queen-size Coleman double-deep mattresses marked down to $104, from $129.99.

Lamps: 10% - 20% off

Lamps and other Target-only brand home accents were 10% to 20%.

Clothing and accessories: 10% - 20% off

Expect decent discounts on clothing and accessories, but limited supply. At the Ajax, Ont. store men's hats were almost completely sold out. However, Mossimo jeans and tops were plentiful at 20% off.

Household cleaners: 10% off

Expect small savings on household goods, such as Tide. Regularly $19.99, now $18 with the 10% off. Lightbulbs, toilet paper, cleaning supplies and batteries were also only 10% off.

Threshold end tables—a popular item for trendy home designers—were only 10% off.

Furniture: 10% off

All Threshold furniture is 10% off. This two-drawer hall table was $169.99, now on sale for $153. Needless to say, furniture wasn't flying off Target's shelves on the first day of their close-out sale.

Despite small savings in some of Target's home categories, such as bed pillows, some aisles just didn't have stock.
