New Canadian research suggests that your kids could benefit from a big glass of milk after the big game. According to the study, milk is more effective than sports drinks and better than water when it comes to rehydrating after exercise.

It’s also packed with electrolytes, protein, carbohydrates and calcium, says Brian Timmons, lead researcher on the study and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. “Children often don’t drink enough to stay hydrated during exercise — and milk replaces the sodium lost through sweat and helps the body retain fluids.”
