Suffering from the painful symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome? Two new studies show that finding relief may be a case of mind over matter. Swedish researchers found that hypnosis can be a highly effective treatment, alleviating symptoms in 40 percent of those affected—with the benefits lasting up to seven years.

Try it yourself: Make a one-hour appointment with a hypnotherapist. Twelve sessions are generally recommended to find relief.
