Anne Hathaway and Julianne Hough
After many seasons when long hair ruled, a fresh crop of stylized looks is taking over. Bobs, short blunt styles, bangs and even boyish pixie cuts are gaining popularity as trendsetting models and actors take the inches off. "Shorter shapes are easy to maintain and can be worn dishevelled, tousled or straight and sleek," says Tresemmé editorial stylist Susana Hong.

Stylists in the know are creating natural-looking tones with lots of dimension for every hair colour, whether blond, brunette or redhead. "The trend is moving away from solid colour," says Christopher Martin of Shagg Salon in Toronto. "Shades are now muted and highlights are not so obvious, resulting in a soft, sun-kissed look." That said, the ombré trend is still kicking around, with lightened or darkened ends and grown-out roots. If you go for this look, stay away from harsh dyes (ask your stylist to use semi-permanent formulas that will gently wash out), and choose a colour that doesn't contrast too much with your base shade to keep it looking modern.
New generation: Take your DIY dye job to the next level with this unique oil-based formula. Gone is the harsh ammonia. Instead, rich ingredients protect the integrity of hair while colouring it and leave a lovely floral fragrance.
Garnier Olia Hair Colour, $13.

Make the most of natural curls, bed-head and beachy waves with this carefree, simple style. "To amp up the texture, which is key to making this style work, you must choose the right product," says Damien Carney, celebrity stylist and Joico international artistic director. "But it should still look effortless, like you did it yourself." Keep it clean, fresh and innocent. Think wash-and-wear hair with loose waves. In contrast, if you love the sleek and straight vibe, severe parts were huge on the runways, too. Try switching it up with a side or middle part.
Total texture: Say hello to waves with this ocean-inspired spray. The salty, matte finish gives hair that relaxed, untamed, on-vacation look and feel.
Got2B Beach Trippin' Salt-Infusion Waving Spray, $8.
Perfect form: This innovative tool is pliable, like a hair putty, but comes in a spray. The result: Texture and shape that won't weight hair down.
Joico Texture Boost Dry Spray Wax, $17.
Up the volume: Get the feel of second-day hair even when it's squeaky clean. One spritz on your roots gives locks that extra hold you need for styling without stiffness.
Tresemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo, $6.
