Seven latest beauty gadgets

1. Head to toe clean

What it does: Using a sonic frequency that moves the brushes around on your skin at 300 rotations per second, this hand-held gadget improves your skin tone, diminishes pores, eliminates dirt and oil, and deep-cleans from head to toe.

Is it worth it? Definitely. In less than a minute you can remove six times more makeup than with a washcloth. The end result is smoother skin, fewer dry patches (even elbows) and a healthy glow.

Get it: Clarisonic Plus Sonic Skin Cleansing System, $259, Sephora.

2. Pedicure 911

What it does: This foot pumice sends dry skin, scales, flakes and tough callouses into smooth and soft oblivion. Battery-operated, the hand-held device takes the arm work out of your footwork. But word to the wise: It must be used on dry feet.

Is it worth it? That depends on the condition of your soles and how frequently you bare them. Considering most summer shoes show off our pretty tootsies we think it is.

Get it: Emjoi Micro-Pedi, $50, Micro-Pedi.

3. DIY wrinkle eliminator

What it does: This at-home version of a dermatologist’s laser is not only Health-Canada approved, it stimulates collagen production and reduces redness, which means baby soft and plump skin are only a zap or two away.

Is it worth it? At almost $500, we know this gadget is more than a little expensive. That said, used bi-weekly it could save you a bundle in laser treatments at the dermatologist. If you can get used to the elastic-band-like snapping feel of the laser on your skin, having better control over the way your complexion looks is worth it.

4. Curl it, quick

What it does: This clamp-free curling wand is just like a traditional curling iron except it doesn’t have a clamp to lock your hair in. Why? Because more often than not, the clamping part of a curling iron causes unwanted kinks. With this gadget you can create curls as close to your scalp as you like, kink-free. Simply wind your hair around the base of the iron, count to 10 and let go. Oh, and it also comes with a heat-protective glove so you don’t burn your hand.

Is it worth it? Basically the answer boils down to how often you curl your hair and how adept you are at wielding a hot wand near your head. You decide.

Get it: T3 Single Pass Whirl, $160, Murale or Sephora.

5. Beauty caddy

What it does: This air tight, fully insulated cosmetic bag is your new vacation buddy. Stash lipstick, cream blush and, yes, even your sandwich inside and it will stay fresh and cool for up to seven hours. Totally waterproof, there’s also a handy zippered pouch and pocket for your iPhone and credit cards.

Is it worth it? Isn’t it? You can leave your purse anywhere, even locked inside the car on a 30+ degree day and your Chanel lipstick will not be a hot mess when you return.

Get it: Icepops by Cool-it Caddy, US$20, Cool-it caddy.

6. Dentist on call

What it is: u2028A DIY teeth whitener that uses light and heat — not alcohol, which increases sensitivity — to gently whiten your teeth up to eight shades lighter.

Is it worth it? Considering most people don't like going to the dentist we'd say yes. The device can be used at home in under 10 minutes while you wear your pajamas in front of the TV. Another plus? No appointment necessary.

Get it: GLO Brilliant Personal Teeth Whitening Device, $240, Sephora.

7. Home hair spa

What is does: Softens your hair and skin thanks to a mix of tourmaline, zinc, copper and calcium. The showerhead claims to filter up to 95 percent of the chlorine, rust and dirt out of your water.

Is it worth it? Yes, especially if you’re a blond and/or colour your hair. This gadget prevents your hair from turning brassy, green and any other hideous shade in between.
