1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 375 F (190 C). Grease a 2.5-L (10-cup) round-bottomed baking dish. Combine flour, baking powder, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, salt and raisins in a large bowl. Stir with fork. Using a spoon, stir in milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Spoon into prepared dish.
To make sauce, stir 3/4 cup sugar with spices. Add butter. Pour boiling water overtop. Stir until butter is melted. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Gently pour sauce over pudding. Do not stir.
Bake, uncovered, in centre of preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until cake springs back when touched in centre. To give sauce a chance to thicken, let stand for about 10 minutes before serving.
