Catharine Pendrel

Sport: Mountain biking

Medal: Bronze in women's cross-country mountain bike race

Early in the race Pendrel was caught up in a crash that left her in 15th place. Then, her shifting stopped working. But the 35-year-old fought back and finished third, after a sprint to the finish line with fellow Canadian Emily Batty, who finished fourth. Pendrel told the CBC after the race: "I'm used to having bad starts, luckily, and I know I can work through a field. We had prepared for every scenario. I knew that I could close a gap and that's what I set about doing today."

Seventeen-year-old Deanne Rose scored the critical first goal of the match, and later assisted the goal that captain Christine Sinclair made for a winning score of 2-1 against Brazil. The Canadian women's soccer team also won bronze in London four years ago.

Erica Wiebe

Sport: Wrestling

Medal: Gold in women's 75-kilogram freestyle

Last summer, Erica Wiebe didn't qualify for the Pan Am Games in Toronto; this year, she took home gold in Rio. "I love this sport and I never thought I'd be an Olympic champion, but today I had my best day," Wiebe told the CBC after her win. Fun fact: Weibe's gold makes four for Canada, the third taken home by a woman and the most we've had in a Summer Olympics since 1992 in Barcelona.

This is Meaghan Benfeito’s second bronze medal in Rio. She won bronze with Roseline Filion alongside her in the synchronized 10-metre dive last week. Both were seen hugging and cheering each other on at today’s individual event.

Simmerling is the first Canadian athlete to compete in three different sports at three separate Olympic Games: She did alpine skiing at the Vancouver Games, cross-country skiing in Sochi and switched to cycling before Rio. No big deal.

"Going into this I wouldn't have said, 'Yay, I won a bronze medal,'" Theisen-Eaton told the Canadian Press. "But I'm really, really happy with it. The Olympics is tough."

Medal: Silver in women’s lightweight double sculls

You can call it a comeback: Bouncing back from a devastating loss at the London Games four years ago, the Canadian duo sat in fifth place at the 1,000-metre mark, but powered up in the final stretch to clinch a second-place finish in Rio.
