Happy 141st Birthday to P.E.I. author Lucy Maud Montgomery!
Brightening everyone's Monday, Google marked the occasion with three Anne of Green Gables Google Doodles designed by Olivia Huynh, which alternate as you reload the page, featuring the series' beloved heroine, Anne Shirley.
One doodle features Anne with an e and Diana Barry lying in the grass reading book, and another a picturesque view of the front of Green Gables house, with Anne and friends traversing or rowing beneath a Google bridge.
Perhaps the most talked-about doodle is the one in which Anne's face turns green after she eats cake made with liniment instead of vanilla.
“Mercy on us, Anne, you’ve flavoured that cake with anodyne liniment. I broke the liniment bottle last week and poured what was left into an old empty vanilla bottle. I suppose it’s partly my fault—I should have warned you—but for pity’s sake why couldn’t you have smelled it?”
Twitter has been abuzz about the Doodles. #AnneofGreenGables, #LucyMaudMontgomery and #GoogleDoodles have been trending throughout the day.
