This bread in a bottle is the perfect hostess gift. It's a useful and pretty present that will add to their holiday feast.  Simply layer all the dry ingredients listed below (making sure to tap each ingredient down with the back of a spoon), and attach the following recipe on the back of the label or card.  Add a ribbon or kitchen twine around for decoration, and voila!  A tasty treat your hostess is sure to love.

You can also use other recipes as well — try substituting with Christmas cookie ingredients instead! Here are 90 recipes to choose from.

Bread mix in a bottle

Dry ingredients to layer into the bottle:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butterscotch chips.

Recipe to write on back of label:

1. In a large bowl, mix the contents of this bottle: 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 cup butterscotch chips.

2. In a small bowl, beat 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, 2 large eggs, and 1/4 cup melted butter.

3. Stir wet mixture into dry ingredients until evenly mixed (the batter will look lumpy).

4. Pour  into a buttered and floured 9 by 5inch loaf pan, and bake in a 350° oven until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean (approximately 50 minutes).
