How much would you spend on a leather jacket?

Back in high school, all the really cool kids wore leather jackets or the ubiquitous leather vest (yes, I was an eighties kid!). Those jackets and vests cost a few hundred bucks, which meant that only a select few could afford them — and I was not one of them.

Fast forward to today, and I am still longing for a leather jacket. I was always too intimidated by their high price tags, though I did get a cheap PVC number about 10 years ago that looked cute for a few months, then fell apart.

Recently, I've been noticing some seriously cute leather jackets that's revving me up to take the plunge. I've had my eye on a few styles, including this one from Danier priced at $399. I also like this Roots jacket for $538 and then there’s this gorgeous one at Intermix with a much steeper price tag of $1325.

But buying a leather jacket would set me back big time. And though I want to feel that cool, soft leather on my skin, and have that one staple item that could pull an outfit perfectly together, I'm reluctant to hand over the cash, yet again. It’s a splurge I’m just not sure I’m ready to make. After all, Canadian winters are long and cold — and a leather jacket may not be the most practical purchase.

So my question to you: do you think a leather jacket is worth the splurge? If so, how much would you be willing to spend?
