The Posts are in turmoil. Longing for something more than fun in the sun, they set off on their first family holiday in over a decade. Sultry teenager Sylvia is approaching university with aspirations of losing her virginity, recently fired father Jim hopes for his acerbic wife, Franny, to forgive him for his wayward ways, and big shot 28-year-old son Bobby is searching for the right time to admit his huge failings. Along for the ride are old family friends Charles and Lawrence, who are anxiously awaiting news about the adoption they’ve been longing to have approved for ages. Everyone’s tense, but with the island of Majorca providing the perfect setting to loosen up in, the characters all come to realize that what they need is much more rewarding than what they want.

The Vacationers, Emma Straub, $31.
