How to make two-toned lampshades

10-minute project: Create a customized showstopper with a little colour savvy and some spray paint
By Photography by Roberto Caruso
How to update your lamp shades with two colour tones, lights, decorating

1. Suspend your lampshade outdoors. (Our pick: Ikea’s Leran pendant.) Tape off the cord with painter’s tape.

2. Start with the lighter colour (we used Krylon Blue Danube). Spray from top to bottom. Let dry completely.

3. Apply a second coat, spraying from bottom to top. When dry, tape off the bottom rim to prevent colours from bleeding.

4. Repeat with darker colour (we used Krylon Black Sea). Get This look: Leran lamps, $50 (sm), $130 (lg), Ikea.ca. Krylon H20 Latex paint, from $7, Home Hardware. Knoll Bertoia Diamond chair, $1,778, Knoll Saarinen Tulip side table, $761, Dam & Viktoria pillow, $245, all Hollace Cluny. Painting (in background), Gerald Gladstone. Wall Paint, Light’s Out by ICI paints, Dulux.
