Give inexpensive cutting boards an elegant, handcrafted upgrade by wrapping the handles in leather. Choose a plain cutting board with a handle or hanging hole and pick out some leather cord (available at craft stores). Cut a length of cord, tie one end around the handle and make a knot. Wrap the rest of the cord around the handle in any pattern you like. The leather not only looks great but also provides a little extra grip. Bonus: They’re perfect as housewarming or hostess gifts.

Leather cords, $2/metre, BeadFX.
