Design we love: Five gorgeous rooms by Nate Berkus

It's not about trends with interior design expert Nate Berkus, who believes in surrounding ourselves with things that we genuinely like and have meaning. Here are some of our favourite rooms that show off that aesthetic.

Sentiment and style

Designer, author and TV personality Nate Berkus recently talked to Chatelaine about his new (and totally awesome) collection for Target. He’s a master of combining sentiment and style, and says, “the smartest thing you can do is buy things that speak to you because sometimes they don’t work in that room like you pictured. But if you love them they’ll work somewhere in your home, just maybe not where you intended.”

As you can see in Nate's New York apartment living room, he applies this design philosophy seamlessly to create a personalized and eclectic look. It features antique French shelving units, an antique desk and white oak herringbone floors.

Dream closet

Nate has done a stunning job with this to-die-for dressing room. We love the tufted yellow velvet ottoman, gallery lighting, luxe hardware and of course, plenty of shoe storage space!

Quick makeover

A continuing theme in Nate's designs is making an existing kitchen work. Here, he painted old cabinets glossy black and created an island with a free-standing marble topped shelving unit.

Luxe look

The powder room in Nate's New York apartment features burnished brass accents and emerald wallpaper from Cole & Son’s Fornasetti collection (Malachite) and a cool rope mirror, a Nate Berkus design.

One of a kind

The cactus skeletons and Madeline Weinrib striped rug can be seen in some of Nate’s other lofts as well. We love the asymmetrical art grouping and that he found a great spot for a treasured green pineapple.
