1. Add nuts to the inside of a hurricane lantern. Acorns spread around a candle add a particularly festive touch. Don't have a lantern? Place a pillar candle on a decorative plate.
2. Fill a bowl with food from your fridge. That squash, pint of kumquats and lone pear will look pretty good all stacked together.
3. Turn one of your everyday bowls upside down and place another on top. Fill halfway with water and add a single bloom. Voila! An instant vase without scrambling to buy a bouquet of flowers.
