There are several ways to battle breast cancer. Talk to your cancer specialist to find out the exact stage of your disease. Your treatment options and outlook for recovery are based on your age and the stage of your cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society offices are staffed with volunteers and paid employees, many of whom have gone through what you will soon experience. They can answer questions and help you find community services, some of which are free, such as child care, meal preparation and delivery, and drivers who can take you to appointments.

Willow, a national breast cancer support organization, can also answer questions about treatment. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday, you can call their toll-free number (1/888/778-3100) to get counselling from breast cancer survivors who can knowledgeably discuss your concerns.

Here are the most common treatments available in Canada and some of the experimental methods that are currently in clinical trials.
