Trying to be "good" all the time can be boring. Aside from giving yourself permission to loosen the reins when your diet starts to feel too rigid, turning to social media can be helpful. The great thing about social media, of course, is you can take it with wherever you go — inspiration in your pocket! Here are the foodies I turn to when I need to shake things up:

1. Karen McLean, self-described on her Secret Squirrel blog as a "Melbourne girl living in Dubai," is one of the best at documenting what she eats through gorgeous photos and videos. It's not always healthy — since she's an avid traveller — but the balance is inspiring, and her joy of tasty whole food is contagious. Karen's famous for her Instagram account (@SecretSquirrelFood), but I am personally obsessed with her Snapchat (Karen.Mclean).

2. Gina Homolka, author of SkinnyTaste.com (and The Skinnytaste Cookbook and menu planner) has a relatively mainstream approach to eating well, which is refreshing in the current ultra-healthy social media foodie landscape scoffing at even the smallest dash of white sugar. Look for her on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat (SkinnyTaste).

3. Angela Liddon, who is known for authoring The Oh She Glows Cookbook, is a force on Instagram. Follow her there for plant-based meal inspiration. She's also active on Twitter and Pinterest.

4. Amelia Freer, also known as the Qualified Nutritional Therapist who transformed singer Sam Smith, advocates a whole-foods diet that's tasty and convenient (even if some of the ingredients, admittedly, are not so convenient). Her new book, Cook. Nourish. Glow., just hit bookstores, so now's a good time to catch her on Instagram.

5. Ella Woodward is a go-to for gluten-free vegan recipes that actually taste good! She recently came out with her first cookbook, Deliciously Ella, and has her own app filled with recipes and ideas. I enjoy watching the Q&As and cooking videos on her YouTube channel and my thumb always stops at her stunning Instagram photos.

6. Kylie Mitchell is a dietitian with a healthy, well-rounded approach to food, which she developed after years of struggling with an eating disorder. Her philosophy is to ditch all the food rules and, well, eat that and that, like a "normal" eater. I like her on Instagram and Snapchat (Immaeatthat), but she's also active on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

7. Jeanette Ogden is a yoga instructor and brand new mama with tantalizing, healthy food ideas that are simple and balanced. She's unique among these popular healthy foodies because she doesn't have a blog — she's only on Instagram.
