Eats for the great outdoors

There can be more to mealtime at the cottage than burgers, hot dogs and toasted marshmallows (not that there's anything wrong with that!). If you keep a few basic ingredients on hand, it's easy to add variety. Take it easy on yourself with make ahead dishes and encourage guests to serve themselves buffet-style whenever possible.

Breakfast on the go
Lay out a table of fruit and make-ahead foods that everyone can help themselves to in the morning.

Chillin' on the dock
Get out of the kitchen and down to the lake – there's no better way to spend your day than lazing on the dock, reading a book and nibbling snacks. And don't forget the drinks!

BBQ lunch
Nothing says summer like a lakeside BBQ. Try these tasty twists on the standard burgers and salad.

Fine cottage dining
Grill up some hot dogs for the kids and have a grown-up supper for two – who says cottage eating can't be romantic?
