Classic Pear Crisp

Classic pear crisp

Ginger and cinnamon add flair and flavour to a crisp that bakes quickly in a pie plate.

Ingredients

  • 4 large pears

  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger

  • generous pinch cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/3 cup butter, at room temperature

Instructions

  • Core and thinly slice peeled pears. Spread out in a 9-inch (23-cm) pie plate. Sprinkle with 1 tbsp (15 mL) flour, then stir until coated.

  • In a bowl, stir rolled oats with sugar, 1/2 cup (125 mL) flour, ginger, cinnamon and salt until evenly mixed. Using a fork or your hands, stir or work in butter until crumbly. Scatter over pears. Bake in centre of preheated 350F (180C) oven until pears are tender, 45 minutes.
