6 kaiser or hamburger buns
2 tsp canola oil
1 small onion, diced
1 small green bell pepper, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
450 g lean ground beef
2 1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup passata
1 cup canned no-salt black beans, drained and rinsed
3 tbsp ketchup
shredded cheddar cheese, (optional)
sliced pickles, (optional)
PREHEAT oven to 400F. Place buns, cut-side up, on a baking sheet.
HEAT oil in large frying pan over medium. Add onion and pepper and cook, stirring until softened, 4 min. Add garlic and cook 1 min.
ADD beef, chili powder and salt. Cook, breaking up with wooden spoon, until browned, 5 min. Stir in passata, beans and ketchup and cook, stirring until thickened, 4 min.
TOAST buns until browned, 4 min. Divide beef mixture among bun bottoms. Top with cheese and pickles then, bun tops.
