There are designers and and then there’s Yves Saint Laurent. Lanky, skinny and wearing what would become his trademark over-sized glasses, Monsieur Laurent was a designing genius at the baby-faced age of 21 when he first caught the eye of the House of Dior in 1957 and became the youngest designer in the world. Four years later, he launched his eponymous brand and forever since, ladies who lunch have nibbled on Salade Niçoise at the Ritz Paris’ The Bar Vendôme wearing his pantsuits and perhaps a dash of his Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in Le Rouge. Neither a gloss nor a stain nor a lipstick, this ruby red lip is all three—and it’s incredible. Not only does it shine like the City of Light, it boasts a Parisian resilience so, naturally, it lasts all night long. We’re positive Monsieur Laurent is looking down from the designer heavens and nodding his approval.
