Updated sloppy joes

Andreas Trauttmansdorff

Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef

  • 1 cup bottled antipasto sauce

  • 2 plum tomatoes, finely chopped

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 cup grated asiago or parmesan

  • 4 hamburger or ciabatta buns, optional

Instructions

  • Lightly coat a large frying pan with oil and set over medium-high heat. When hot, crumble in beef. Break it up with a fork. Add antipasto sauce, tomatoes and half of onions. Stir mixture frequently until no pink remains, 5 to 6 minutes.

  • Stir in half of cheese. Spoon over crusty buns and top with remaining onion and cheese. Or, for a lighter bite, spoon into Boston lettuce cups or romaine spears.

We guarantee the sloppy joes you grew up with never tasted like this. That bottle of antipasto sauce you bought for your last cocktail party does wonders for a pound of ground beef.
