Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup water

  • red and yellow food colouring

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 85-g pkg microwave popcorn

Instructions

  • In a wide, heavy-bottomed saucepan, stir sugar with water. Add 10 drops red and 4 drops yellow food colouring and butter. Set over medium heat. Stir constantly until mixture boils, 3 to 6 min. Then boil, without stirring, 5 more min. Meanwhile, pop popcorn following package instructions and leave in bag.

  • When sugar mixture has boiled 5 min, remove pan from heat and swirl pan a few times. Open popcorn and turn into a very large, wide bowl. Very carefully pour sugar mixture overtop. Using a spatula, immediately stir to evenly mix. Tumble popcorn onto a baking sheet. Cool before eating. Popcorn tastes best the same day it's made.
