Brown sugar sauce

Japanese or Chinese Soy Sauce in Suace-boat. Isolated over White

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup cold milk, or cream

  • 1/4 cup brandy, or rum

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a small saucepan set over medium heat. In a medium-size bowl, stir flour with sugar. Then whisk into melted butter until mixture is moistened. Stir in milk or cream until smooth. Cook, whisking frequently, until thickened and smooth, about 5 minutes. Stir in brandy and vanilla. Remove from heat

  • Serve right away over coffee cake. Or cover and refrigerate for up to a week. Reheat just before serving.

This rich sauce enhances coffee cake, but try it drizzled over gingerbread, spice cake or vanilla ice cream.
