This strong, subtly bitter and herbaceous cocktail calls for just four ingredients: rye whiskey (or bourbon), sweet vermouth and Angostura bitters.
4 oz rye
2 oz sweet vermouth
4 drops Angostura bitters
Lemon peel twist or maraschino cherries, for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.
Add 4 oz rye, 2 oz sweet red vermouth and 4 drops Angostura Bitters.
Cover and shake vigorously until very cold. Strain into 2 coupe glasses.
Garnish with a twist of lemon peel or a few maraschino cherries.
