Chatelaine Triple Tested

Packed with flavour, texture and festive colour, this (mostly) store-bought appetizer can be an indulgent treat to others—and to yourself.

Ingredients

  • 450 g pkg frozen butter puff pastry

  • 1/4 cup pesto

  • 1/4 cup finely grated pecorino-romano cheese

  • freshly ground pepper, to season

Instructions

  • Position rack in centre of oven, then preheat to 425F. Line two baking sheets with foil. Working with one pastry sheet at a time, unroll a thawed puff pastry sheet onto counter. Spread pesto evenly over sheet. Sprinkle over cheese. Season with pepper. Press gently.

  • Cut pastry into 1/2-in. strips. Twist the two ends of each strip in opposite directions a few times, then lay strips on prepared sheets, 1 in. apart.

  • Bake until golden brown, 10 to 13 min. Repeat with remaining pastry sheet, pesto and cheese.

Kitchen Note

Some puff pastry brands may spread more in baking. We prefer the taste of butter puff pastry.
