Brighten the floor with colorful canvas
Using this pattern as a guide, you can paint a floorcloth to look like the one featured in the March 1997 issue of CHATELAINE.

First published in Chatelaine's March 1997 issue.
©Rogers Media Publishing Inc.

Here's how:

  1. Cut heavy canvas to size (ours is 3 by 5 feet). Paint with white latex paint. Let dry. Draw a line 1 inch in from all edges. This will be turned under as a hem.
  2. Click on the link below that leads to the enlarged version of the rug pattern. Print out and enlarge further if required, so that four patterned sections cover the entire area of canvas.
  3. Use a pencil to draw the pattern onto the canvas. Paint within the lines using acrylic paints. Let dry, then seal with 3 or 4 coats of acrylic varnish.
  4. Turn under the edges where marked. Cut across each corner to reduce the amount of fabric there. Glue in place using tacky white craft glue or a glue gun.
