Maximize furniture

Virginie Martocq, an incredible designer and former Chatelaine home editor, has put together some fantastic storage solutions for Homesense. From benches that double as storage to gorgeous organizing baskets, these simple, yet savvy pieces make decluttering the home effortless.

Add compartments

One of Virginie’s fabulously useful storage tips is to make a place for everything — and she means everything! Sort through your clothes and accessories, kitchen cupboards and office space, then group items into slotted spaces. Use pretty trays, patterned dividers and gorgeous boxes to achieve more efficiency in your home.

Sort it out

So many of us seem to be obsessing over good ol' fashioned Mason jars and the like. What’s not to love about these age-old beauties that are functional, economical and unifying. Take a weekend and clean out your pantry by sorting all your dried goods into glass containers; then tackle your craft corner, office supplies, sewing tools, jewellery — trust me, you won’t be able to stop! I love the Weck canning jars from Crate&Barrel and these gorgeous brass and glass containers from Anthropologie.

Put a name on it

Labels are my best friend. I recommend everyone start labelling their items, such as jarred spices, tea bags, boxes of cleaning products, summer hats, shoes, lipsticks and more. It will save you time and frustration the next time you want to find something in a hurry.
